For more than two decades, Alexis Wolfe Mbassa has documented the people, cultures, and communities that shape our world.

Her work lives at the intersection of documentary, portraiture, and narrative - creating honest visual stories that build connection, understanding, and trust.

Working with musicians, brands, entrepreneurs, schools, and families, Alexis is drawn to the people behind the story. Whether photographing a global campaign, documenting a hip-hop legend, or spending a day with a family, her goal is always the same: to create work that feels deeply human.

Her clients include Microsoft, Cornell University, Digital Underground, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Cîroc Vodka, URB Magazine, MOHAI, MoPOP, Neumos, the Bronx Hip Hop Museum, and organizations and brands across the country.

Her photographs have appeared in museums, magazines, album artwork, advertising campaigns, books, and television productions including New Amsterdam and Hip Hop Treasures.

In 2008, Alexis published her first book, Emerald City Hip Hop. Her second book, Keep It Beautiful: Inside the Funkyverse of Shock G and Digital Underground, created over fifteen years with Shock G and published by Clarkson Potter | Penguin Random House, is released in August 2026.

Today, Alexis continues to create narrative-driven photography and visual storytelling for brands, artists, and individuals who believe that authentic stories are the most powerful way to connect with people.
